Azad Hind Regiment For New India

On 19^th January Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) information and technology cell informed that in the honour of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s indomitable spirit and his selfless service to the nation, Government of India has decided to celebrate his birthday, 23rd January as Parakram Divas.

On 18^th Oct 2014, from the dark chamber of Taloja jail Lt Col Prasad Shrikant Purohit, the spy legend also known by his sobriquet Col Purohit, wrote a letter to India’s current PM, Narendra Modi, suggesting him to raise a new infantry regiment to commemorate the sacrifice of the soldiers of Azad Hind Sena and why Nicobar islands needed attention, pronto.

Lt Col Prasad Shrikant Purohit is a Military intelligence officer who had successfully infiltrated into terrorist organizations and had mapped the route chart of fake currency in India, but was later incarcerated under unfortunate circumstances in 2008. The officer is now on bail after 9 years in custody.

While rummaging through the letter one should remember that it was written in 2014, and that few of the suggestions have fructified into successful projects.

The first part of his letter contains suggestions as to how the Azad Hind regiment should be raised with certain unique features. For example Non-resident Indians & PIOs (person of Indian origin) should be given a chance to serve in the regiment. The regiment should be lead by the Commander In Chief of Indian Armed forces, the President of India himself. Since Indian Army draws it’s inspiration from the freedom fighters and the Azad Hind Sena, this regiment should be considered the senior most regiment of the Indian Army. Officers from other regiments and services should also be allowed to serve in the regiment. Regimental center should be located in Kohima/Imphal/Port blair/Andaman Nicobar as these places were first emancipated by Azad hind Sena. The officer has also described the details of the uniform to be used.
