Three days before the peace agreement was signed between United National Liberation Front, UNLF ( the oldest valley-based armed group of Manipur)and the Government of India, a wanted terrorist was killed in Myothit, Myanmar.

Details from Myanmar, as conveyed by Manipur media, indicate that an incident involving a drone attack in Myothit town, Kabaw Valley, on November 22, resulted in the fatality of one valley based insurgent and injuries to five others. Additionally, the self styled Lt Col Moirangthem Uttam, also recognized as Tamba and serving as the Camp Commander of a KYKL camp in Thanan, was initially reported missing and later discovered deceased in Myanmar following the attack.

Several speculations have emerged regarding his death, raising unanswered questions. Some speculate the possibility of his own faction eliminating him arises due to disputes over drugs or power, given his role as the Thanan KYKL camp commander in Myanmar. There are also chances that the attack could have been motivated by substantial extortion amounts or the quest for power within the group. There is also speculation that he might have been killed by Myanmar’s military during clashes between the PDF and Junta troops while attempting to flee. Another possibility is that he was killed while trying to escape the camp in Myanmar to re-enter Indian soil and was possibly intercepted by security forces.

In June 2015, Uttam found himself on the NIA’s wanted list as the prime suspect in ambushing an army convoy, an incident that caused the death of 18 army men and injuries to numerous others. Despite the initial apprehension of 12 KYKL militants, including Uttam, by the Army in Manipur, they were subsequently released under the pressure of Meitei crowds, which had gathered in the thousands.

In the above pic you can see Flag of UNLF, and banner. The amount of ammunition UNLF lost was itself a huge setback to the militants org. UNLF had no option left but to surrender to Govt of India.
