Ostensibly, two months before Hamas attacked Israel, the Pentagon awarded a multimillion-dollar contract to build U.S. troop facilities for a secret base it maintains deep within Israel’s Negev desert, just 32Km away from Gaza.

Secret Site 512 protected by American PMCs

Code-named “Site 512,” the longstanding U.S. base is a radar facility that monitors the skies for missile attacks on Israel. Site 512, however, wasn’t established to contend with a threat to Israel from Palestinian militants but the danger posed by Iranian mid-range missiles. On October 7, however, when thousands of Hamas rockets were launched, Site 512 saw nothing — because it is focused on Iran, more than 700 miles away.

Two American private military contractors (PMCs) are seeking to bolster their security teams at a covert Pentagon installation situated outside Gaza and at the US Embassy located in Jerusalem.
Constellis, which arose from the remnants of Blackwater after its collapse a decade ago, holds a contract from the Defense Department to safeguard its facilities close to Beersheva. This area hosts personnel from the US Armed Forces operating at Site 512, a classified establishment nestled in the Negev desert. Collaborating with the Israeli military, the US military endeavors to defend against ballistic missile threats from foreign adversaries at this site. Equipped with cutting-edge radar and signals intelligence systems, Site 512 aims to furnish early alerts of potential missile strikes targeting Israel.

A rare admission of the US military’s presence in Israel occurred in 2017 when the two nations unveiled a military facility, described by the US government-funded Voice of America as “the inaugural American military base on Israeli territory.” Brigadier General Tzvika Haimovitch of the Israeli Air Force hailed it as a “historic” moment, emphasizing, “We have established, for the first time, an American base within the State of Israel, under the auspices of the Israel Defense Forces

Albeit, U.S. military denied that it was an American base, insisting that it was merely a “living facility” for U.S. service members working at an Israeli base.

There are very high chances that Iran has been keeping this site on its crosshair, albeit there are very low chances of Iran directly hitting this American base.

Using proxies to spread American and Israeli resources thin in the region is Iran and Russia’s ultimate aim.
