The Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) published its yearly report for 2024 on dec 29th, revealing a grim picture of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The report documents 670 terrorist incidents across the province, with certain areas bearing the brunt of the violence.
Most Affected Areas
The districts most impacted by terrorism include:
- Dera Ismail Khan: 121 incidents
- Bannu: 116 incidents
- Khyber: 80 incidents
Counter-Terrorism Efforts and Casualties
In response to the surge in terrorism, security forces undertook extensive counter-terrorism measures. The report highlights:
- Militants Neutralized: 212 terrorists were killed, with 80 deaths reported in Dera Ismail Khan alone.
- Police Casualties: 204 policemen were martyred, and 383 were injured during operations.
- Civilian Impact: 174 civilians lost their lives, and 275 were injured in terrorist incidents.
Despite the efforts, the province witnessed a noticeable rise in terrorism.
Operational Achievements
The CTD carried out 2,981 intelligence-based operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, yielding significant results:
- High-Value Arrests: 31 high-value and most-wanted terrorists were captured.
- Recovered Materials: Security forces seized:
- 850 kilograms of explosives
- 165 hand grenades
- 7 suicide jackets
Focused Regions
The majority of operations targeted terrorism-prone districts, including:
- North Waziristan
- Tank
- Dera Ismail Khan
- Lakki Marwat
- Bannu
- Bajaur
