The Solar Group has achieved a significant milestone by successfully test-firing guided micro-missiles as part of the ‘Bhargavastra’ counter-drone system. This system, leveraging advanced micro-missile technology, has been developed to combat the growing threats from loitering munitions and weaponized drones.
What is known of Bhagavastra?
- Trial Details: The initial control trial on January 12 targeted a stationary object at a distance of 2,500 meters and an altitude of 400 meters. The second trial on January 13 tested the system against a moving electronic target, with footage captured using an infrared (IR) camera. The system is capable of operating at an altitude of up to 5,000 m above sea level.
- Comprehensive Solution: The ‘Bhargavastra’ system integrates both hard-kill and soft-kill capabilities, offering a robust and cost-effective solution against all UAV threats. It is designed to seamlessly integrate with the armed forces’ existing network for network-centric warfare.
- Test Location and Future Plans: Both trials were conducted at the Gopalpur Seaward Firing Ranges, witnessed by senior Army officials. The system is now ready for more extensive trials this year, paving the way for its induction into the armed forces.
- Capabilities and Deployment: The system can launch over 64 micro-missiles simultaneously. The system can also integrate seamlessly with the armed forces’ existing network for network-centric warfare.It is mounted on a mobile platform, ensuring rapid deployment to various threat zones, including high-altitude and diverse terrains.
The successful testing marks a crucial step in enhancing India’s defense capabilities against emerging drone threats, with larger trials and potential deployment anticipated in the near future.
