Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Russian President Vladimir Putin met on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
Sharif told President Putin that the implementation of the Trans-Afghan Corridor (TAC) project would lead to prosperity in the countries of the region.
This corridor could connect the countries of Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
The Trans-Afghan Corridor has been a hot topic in recent years, particularly in talks between Central Asian and the countries in the Indian subcontinent. The plan is to connect Central Asia to Pakistan via Afghanistan.

If implemented, goods from Russia and Belarus would enter Kazakhstan and, after passing through Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, would eventually reach the southern waters.
Taliban officials are key backers of the plan.

Taliban Minister of Industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi has previously said the project would not be possible without Afghan participation. The Taliban have previously signed agreements with Uzbekistan and Pakistan to conduct feasibility studies for the route.
The idea of the Trans-Afghan Corridor has a history of more than two decades, but Afghanistan’s presence in this corridor was raised by the previous Afghan government
