Update:
A case has surfaced in Nepal where a local section officer was involved in granting Nepali citizenship to Chinese nationals in exchange for bribes. In a country like India, where Nepalis can secure government jobs, this news has raised a few eyebrows. Could it be possible for Chinese individuals, disguised as Nepali citizens, to infiltrate Indian government positions? Is this a nefarious scheme or an innocuous mistake?
An individual holding the position of section officer has been apprehended for facilitating Nepali citizenship to two Chinese citizens, who are currently detained by the police for their involvement in gold smuggling activities. Ram Chandra Aryal, employed as a sixth-level officer at the Bagmati Province Assembly Secretariat, was arrested in Hetauda on Wednesday. Aryal had previously been transferred to the Bagmati Province Assembly Secretariat from the Transport Management Office located in Thulo Bharyang, Kathmandu.
Aryal faces accusations of aiding in the process of granting Nepali citizenship to the Chinese nationals during his tenure as the Nayab Subba at the District Administration Office, Kavre. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police is conducting further investigation into the matter.
In January 2018, Nepali citizenships were granted based on lineage to Dawa Tshiring, a Belgian citizen of Tibetan ancestry, and Dawa Jin Wang, a Chinese national. The investigation uncovered that Aryal inputted these names into the computer system. Dawa obtained Nepali citizenship under the alias Nima Tamang, whereas Wang acquired it using the pseudonym Pasang Tamang.
Aryal was arrested 5 days ago for a crime that he committed 5 years ago. How many such cases have happened in last 5 years? Nobody knows!
Meanwhile Indian and Nepali authorities had a meeting. The Nepal-India border coordination meeting wrapped up in Mahendranagar on Wednesday, reaching an accord to enhance security measures in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India. During the session, security authorities from both nations also concurred on collaborating to curb criminal activities along the Nepal-India border region.
