Chinese Spies Interested in Flight Secrets caught by Ukrainian Intel Agency

By Levina

In the shadowy world of espionage, Beijing’s diplomats embarked on a clandestine mission to seduce Ukrainian drone manufacturers, weaving a tangled web of deceit and treachery. But they failed miserably as Ukrainians resources were heavily invested in Russia- Ukraine war, and Ukrainian drone manufacturers were on alert while dealing with Chinese due to their “reputation” as information grabbers. They were aware that if Ukrainians gave out any piece of information to Chinese, then they will lose their advantage against Russia in the battlefield, worse– Chinese may reverse engineer their locally produced drones and the drones supplied by other NATO countries which could earn them the ire of western nations.

Ukrainian spy agencies had kept the 2 chinese spies , on their radar while they played their dance of espionage with Ukrainian officials.

Their nefarious pursuits came crashing down in a blaze of betrayal and intrigue when a trail of deceit led to the doorsteps of Chinese spies. Unbeknownst to them, their contact within Antonov, an unwitting pawn in their deadly game, became an unwitting informant for the SBU, Ukraine’s intelligence agency.

As the SBU pulled the strings from the shadows, meticulously orchestrating the demise of the Chinese spies, the net drew ever tighter. The fateful day of reckoning arrived on October 19th 20o23, as the spies greedily sought coveted diagrams for the An-124, only to be ensnared in the jaws of justice.

What were the Chinese spies looking for?

  • Chinese investigators sought documentation for the design of a large transport aircraft, as per the investigation file provided by SBU.
  • They offered $450,000 to a Ukrainian individual in exchange for the supply of design plans for various aircraft and equipment.
  • The aircraft included the giant An-124 and the now-destroyed An-225, nicknamed Mriya. Mriya was the largest airplane by weight in the world.
  • They also sought designs for engines produced by Antonov, particularly the D-18T engines powering An-124-100 and Mriya, as well as D-436-148 engines powering An-148, An-158, and An-178 aircraft.
  • Additionally, the Chinese were interested in acquiring anti-tank and anti-aircraft equipment supplied to Kyiv by various countries, such as the FGM-148 Javelin and FIM-92 Stinger.
  • They also attempted to procure the Switchblade suicide drone, designed by the Californian company AeroVironment, with two units sought for $30,000 each.

Not the first time!!!
According to US officials, Pakistan is suspected of covertly permitting the Chinese military to investigate the wreckage of the helicopter destroyed in the mission to eliminate Osama bin Laden in May.

Citing American intelligence sources, reports indicate that Pakistan allowed Chinese officials to photograph and extract samples from the Black Hawk stealth helicopter that crashed at bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad. This revelation was based on intercepted phone conversations.

Following the crash, US special forces destroyed the helicopter to prevent it from falling into foreign hands, although the tail section remained largely intact despite the destruction of the electronic systems. Notably, the unique features of the helicopter tail, including its outer skin and curved shape, garnered attention for their potential radar-evading capabilities.

Chinese military officials ostensibly obtained samples of the helicopter’s skin and documented its design in the days that followed.
