The Indian Navy warship INS Kolkata has apprehended 35 sea pirates on board and initiated its journey towards the Indian west coast, accompanied by the 17 crew members of the merchant vessel MV Ruen. According to Indian Navy officials, the pirates were compelled to surrender following a significant operation conducted on the high seas.

During the operation, a large number of Marine Commandos were airlifted by an Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft from an air base on the west coast of India. They were then airdropped in the Arabian Sea near the hijacked vessel, which was approximately 2600 km away from Indian shores. Additionally, special boats carrying commandos were separately airdropped in the vicinity, allowing them to approach the vessel and execute the operation effectively.

The Indian Navy is also escorting the merchant vessel MV Ruen to the Indian coast. Notably, the vessel is transporting a substantial quantity of steel. Prior to surrendering to the Marine Commandos, the pirates had engaged in gunfire with Indian Navy assets, as confirmed by Indian Navy officials
