Assassination of Taliban’s chief’s Advisor– Is ISI Sending out a Message?

Mohammad Umarjan Akhundzadeh, advisor to Hebatullah Akhundzadeh and head of the Jihadi school in Kandahar, was killed on Thursday evening, in the Pashtunabad area of Navi Keli village in Quetta city, Pakistan.

Besides establishing religious schools in Pakistan in recent years, he was also a senior member of the leadership council of Quetta.

After regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban transformed the “Mechanical High School” of Kandahar province into a jihadist school, with Maulvi Mohammad Omar Akhandzada appointed as its head. This school is located next to Mandigak Palace, where it is said that the Taliban leader uses it as his office.

According to sources, Mr. Akhundzadeh had traveled to Quetta during Eid to meet his family and friends. So far, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the murder of Hebatullah Akhundzadeh’s trusted associate.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s chief spokesman, released an official statement on Friday, regarding the killing of Mohammad Omarjan Akhundzadeh. The announcement lacks detailed information regarding how, when, and where the perpetrators executed this senior Taliban official.

Who killed Hebatullah Akhundzadeh’s trusted associate?

The Taliban exhibit significant internal divisions, and they face numerous adversaries outside their organizational framework. Sources indicate that it’s possible this individual close to Hebatullah Akhundzadeh was assassinated by disgruntled elements within the Taliban.

Moreover, Taliban collaborates closely with foreign jihadist organizations, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), in the intelligence operations it conducts.

Although there are no reliable sources to confirm the identity of those behind the assassination of the Taliban leader’s trusted associate, the killing of Umarjan Akhundzada likely relates to the Taliban leadership and the individual who identifies himself as Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, the Taliban leader.

Its very likely that Umarjan was assassinated by ISI’s hit men as he had contacts within TTP, and this is a message being sent out to Taliban’s Chief
