ISIS in Nepal

Interpol’s Singapore branch has sought info on Nepali Police officer and 2 others

Interpol’s Singapore branch has issued a request for information regarding Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hem Bahadur Shahi, Mahendra Jung Shah, and Dipendra Bahadur Shah, who are suspected of involvement in terrorism financing activities. The international law enforcement agency has raised concerns about potential links to extremist groups, including indications that elements of ISIS may be operating in Nepal.

According to Interpol, DSP Shahi has been in contact with known supporters of ISIS. Shahi, previously notorious for demanding goats as bribes in 2019, was recently denied entry into Singapore alongside Mahendra Jung Shah. Mahendra is known to have ties to terrorist organizations, raising further suspicion about their activities. Additionally, Dipendra Bahadur Shah was previously deported from Malaysia, though specific details surrounding his deportation remain undisclosed.

The request for information shows growing concerns about terrorism financing networks in the region. Interpol has urged authorities and the public to provide any relevant details that could assist in their investigation. The agency continues to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing the need for international cooperation to address the threat of extremist activities.
