Indian Army buys IG Drones

Odisha-based drone manufacturer IG Drones has secured a significant contract with the Indian Army to supply indigenously developed VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) and FPV (First-Person View) drones.

With growing concerns over the security risks posed by foreign-made drones, the company clarified that its drones contain no Chinese components.

According to IG Drones, VTOL systems are designed to operate in extreme conditions, such as mountainous terrains and urban conflict zones, providing exceptional flexibility by enabling vertical take-off and landing in areas where runways are unavailable.

FPV drones offer a real-time, first-person view, allowing for precise intelligence gathering during tactical reconnaissance missions.

“The decision to prioritize domestically developed drone technology comes at a time when the Indian Army is facing escalating security threats along international borders,” IG Drones stated.

The company also highlighted recent incidents, including the hijacking of an Indian Army drone near the Pakistan border, which have emphasized the urgent need for reliable, indigenously manufactured platforms that are free from Chinese-origin components, as these could pose a threat to national security.

Reaffirming its commitment to eliminating Chinese components, the company stressed its dedication to addressing critical national security concerns.

IG Drones’ Founder and CEO, Bodhisattwa Sanghapriya, stated that the contract reflects the Indian Army’s confidence in the company’s ability to provide secure, world-class drone systems.

According to Major General R.C. Padhi, senior vice-president of IG Drones, these drones will play a crucial role in enhancing border security, ensuring accurate intelligence gathering, and strengthening surveillance capabilities.

One of the drones produced by IG drones is called IG Jaga, inspired by Lord Jaganath.
