Upgraded T-90MS at IDEX 2025 Unveiled by Uralvagonzavod

Russian armored vehicle manufacturer Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) has showcased an upgraded version of its T-90MS main battle tank (MBT) at the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) 2025, held in Abu Dhabi from February 17 to 21.

The T-90MS, an export variant of the T-90M, has been improved based on operational feedback from its deployment in Ukraine. UVZ has also emphasized licensed production of the T-90MS as an attractive offer for potential buyers, allowing them to manufacture the tank locally.

The upgraded T-90MS boasts enhanced maneuverability, making it effective across various terrains. Key improvements include:

Advanced Digital Systems – The tank is now equipped with an upgraded fire control system and integrated command information systems, improving battlefield efficiency.

Increased Firepower – It features armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) rounds, air-burst fragmentation projectiles, and guided missiles to enhance lethality.

NBC Protection – The PKUZ-1A system provides increased defense against nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) threats.

The T-90MS retains its 125 mm 2A46M-5 main gun, capable of firing a variety of armor-piercing, high-explosive, and shaped-charge shells. The tank carries up to 40 rounds of 125 mm ammunition. Additionally, it is fitted with a 7.62 mm remotely operated anti-aircraft machine gun, capable of engaging both moving and stationary targets.

T-90 Losses in Ukraine and India’s Interest

During the ongoing war, 179 T-90 MBTs (including A, AK, S, and M variants) have been lost. Meanwhile, India, one of the largest operators of the T-90, currently fields 1,650 tanks across 21 regiments and is awaiting the production of 400 more hulls.

With its latest enhancements, the T-90MS aims to strengthen its appeal to global defense markets, offering improved combat efficiency, firepower, and survivability.
