Four rebel groups have come together in Myanmar to form the Ramonya column, inspired by the 4 brothers of Ramayana. This will add to the woes of the Myanmar Junta.
The announcement was made in January 2025 that four groups have united to form the “Ramanya Joint Force”.
They will conduct operations across Mon State in collaboration with the PDF and KNLA. The group claims they’re waging a Ramayana war.

Dr. Thiri Mon Chan, who has the authority to speak about the “Ramayana War”, told the local media that four groups of troops have joined forces in Mon State to form a joint military line and will fight against the military dictatorship.

On January 17, the Mon State Liberation Army (MLA), the Mon National Liberation Army (MNLA-AD), the Mon State Defense Force (MSDF) and the Mon State Revolutionary Force (MSRF) held a meeting in a liberated area and formed the ‘Ramanya Joint Front’ for joint operations of the four forces, the four Mon armies.

The Ramanaya Joint Front will fight together with other revolutionary forces, such as the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the PDF.

On their telegram channel they put out a message saying “Inviting new recruits, not only Mon nationals but also all other nationalities including Mon, Karen, and Pa-O are invited. The current MSDF force includes Mon State residents as well as Yangon, Dr. Thiri Mon Chan informed that young people from other regions and states, including Mandalay, are also serving”.

Mon State is an administrative division of Myanmar. It lies between Kayin State to the east, the Andaman Sea to the west, Bago Region to the north and Tanintharyi Region to the south, also having a short border with Thailand’s Kanchanaburi Province at its south-eastern tip. The Mons blended Indian and Mon cultures in a hybrid of the civilisations. In Myanmar, the Hindu deity Ram is Yama, and Shri Ram’s wife Sita is Thida.
