EXCLUSIVE: Bangladesh Army ‘s TRG-230/300 missile systems made in Turkey Soon to be Displayed

The Bangladesh Army is set to showcase its newly acquired advanced Turkish-made TRG-230 and TRG-300 guided rocket systems during the grand celebrations marking Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day on March 26. This display comes as part of the ongoing military modernization efforts under Forces Goal 2030, highlighting Dhaka’s push to enhance its artillery capabilities amid regional security dynamics.

The TRG-230 and TRG-300 are precision-guided multiple rocket launcher systems developed and manufactured by Türkiye’s leading defense firm, Roketsan. These systems represent a significant upgrade in firepower for the Bangladesh Army, offering extended range, high accuracy, and versatility on the battlefield.

The TRG-300 (also known as Kaplan or Tiger in some variants) can engage targets at ranges up to 120 km, making it suitable for deep strikes against high-priority assets such as command centers, armored formations, or fortified positions. The TRG-230, with a slightly shorter but still formidable range (typically 20-70 km or more in advanced variants), provides a complementary capability for tactical engagements, allowing for greater flexibility in salvo sizes and deployment.

Reports indicate that Bangladesh acquired over 18 units of these combined TRG-230/300 systems in late 2024 or early 2025, building on earlier deals that began as far back as 2019. Deliveries have strengthened the Army’s rocket artillery regiments, particularly those positioned to safeguard strategic borders, including areas near Myanmar. The systems are mounted on mobile platforms like the Kamaz 6×6 chassis, enabling rapid deployment, quick relocation, and integration with existing command structures.

From India’s perspective, this development underscores the evolving defense landscape in South Asia. Bangladesh’s deepening military ties with Türkiye—evident in procurements ranging from Bayraktar TB2 drones to other Roketsan products—reflect Dhaka’s strategy to diversify its arms sources beyond traditional suppliers. While these acquisitions primarily aim to bolster border security and conventional deterrence, they occur against the backdrop of regional sensitivities, including maritime interests in the Bay of Bengal and shared borders.

Indian analysts note that such procurements are part of Bangladesh’s broader effort to modernize under Forces Goal 2030, focusing on self-reliance and multi-vendor partnerships. However, the introduction of long-range precision rocket systems adds a new layer to the regional balance, prompting closer monitoring of cross-border implications and potential escalatory risks in contingencies.

The planned public display on March 26 is expected to feature these systems prominently in parades or static exhibitions, symbolizing Bangladesh’s growing defense prowess and its strategic partnership with Türkiye. As celebrations approach, the event will likely draw attention from defense observers across the region, including in New Delhi, where any shifts in neighboring military postures are viewed with strategic interest.
