The Pakistan-based proscribed terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) has suffered another blow to its core leadership hierarchy following the death of Abdul Hafeez Amir Puri. Amir Puri, who was a close paternal cousin of JeM founder and chief and UN declared global terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar, served as a key ideologue and author for the terrorist group’s radicalization magazines.
His death marks the third major loss for the terror outfit’s inner circle in recent months, pointing toward a compounding leadership crisis within the organization.
JeM issued an official public statement confirming Amir Puri’s passing on Monday (12 Oct’26), describing him as a “scholar of religion and a man of letters.”
- Funeral Location: Jamia Sabir Bahawalpur (JeM Headquarters)
- Timing: Funeral prayers were scheduled for 11:00 AM at the Bahawalpur complex, with distant followers urged to offer Eisaal-e-Sawab (prayers for the departed soul).
The message, issued under the header “Letter from a Servant” and dated 12 Oct’26, called upon supporters to remember Amir Puri in their daily prayers while paying tribute to his contributions to the terroris group’s radical narrative.
Amir Puri’s death comes as part of a series of fatal setbacks hitting JeM’s high command over the past few months:
- Tahir Anwar: The elder brother of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar, who held significant influence within the family-dominated leadership structure.
- Maulana Salman Azhar: A prominent JeM preacher and operative who died in a motorcycle accident.
- Abdul Hafeez Amir Puri: Masood Azhar’s cousin, who spearheaded propaganda and intellectual indoctrination for the outfit.
Abdul Hafeez Amir Puri played a crucial role in JeM’s propaganda machinery, writing extensively for magazines and publications aimed at radicalizing youth, driving recruitment, and raising funds. His death, coupled with the loss of key figures like Tahir Anwar and Salman Azhar in close succession, severely disrupts JeM’s propaganda network and central command structure operating out of Punjab, Pakistan.
