Recent reports reveal that China has constructed a large-scale urban complex near the Nepal border, reportedly as part of “border infrastructure” development. This new infrastructure, located in Upper Mustang’s Lomanthang region along the Korala border, appears far more extensive than typical border facilities.
Nepali media has highlighted the development along the Korala border, where China has reportedly built a comprehensive city in the guise of customs facilities, quarantine centers, accommodations, and parking areas. In contrast, Nepal has recently opened a modest immigration office on its side of the border, primarily to support dry port operations.
Previously, only a limited number of people with special permits could cross the Korala border. However, it was recently opened for “trade and travel” between the two countries. Yet, observers suggest that this may not be the sole purpose of China’s infrastructure expansion.
The Mustang region is a highly strategic location, and the scale of China’s development has raised questions about the broader implications and intentions behind this project. The Mustang region, including Korala Pass, is culturally significant due to its historical connections with Tibet and its unique Tibetan Buddhist heritage.

This is from Google earth. Interestingly what google earth shows of the region is from 2019. So the video is correct— 5 years later in 2024, number of buildings are bound to have increased by leaps and bounds. Also the video confirms the type of structures.
