Jammu Region:
In a significant crackdown on terrorism, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir achieved major milestones in 2024. According to a police handout shared with media, 14 foreign terrorists were neutralized this year, and 13 terror modules were dismantled across the Jammu zone. These modules were uncovered in key districts, including Rajouri (1), Poonch (2), Udhampur (3), Reasi (1), Doda (4), and Kathua (2), marking a critical blow to networks aiming to destabilize the region.
The police spokesperson further highlighted sustained pressure on anti-national elements. Actions against overground workers (OGWs) saw a significant increase, with 827 individuals targeted this year compared to 282 in 2023. Additionally, 180 individuals were detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), up from 168 detainees last year.
Efforts to maintain law and order have also led to a notable reduction in general crime across the Jammu zone. The number of criminal cases registered in 2024 dropped to 13,163 from 15,774 in 2023. Police officials credited this decline to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement personnel in ensuring public safety and order.
Counter-Terrorism Highlights in J&K
Security forces neutralized a total of 75 terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir in 2024, with 60% of them identified as Pakistani nationals. Notably, four local youths were recruited by terrorist organizations, underscoring the importance of ongoing vigilance. On average, Indian security forces eliminated one terrorist every five days this year, with foreign terrorists forming the majority of the casualties.
Among the operations, 17 terrorists were killed while attempting to infiltrate along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), while 26 were neutralized during encounters in interior areas. These actions have significantly curtailed the growing terrorist threat in the region.
Terror Incidents and Casualties
In 2024, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed 60 terror-related incidents, resulting in 122 fatalities, including 32 civilians and 26 security personnel. Despite the challenges, the relentless efforts of security forces have been pivotal in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
