57 Attacks in 48 Hours; Surge of Violence Grips Pakistan; 16 deaths and 48 injuries

In a span of just 48 hours, Pakistan has been shaken by a wave of violence, with 57 attacks carried out by the Pakistani Taliban and the Baloch Liberation Army. These assaults, employing tactics such as sniper shots, fire raids, IED explosions, and suicide bombings, have left a devastating toll: 16 people killed and 46 others injured. Meanwhile an indefinite curfew has been declared in South Waziristan and a convoy of buses was targeted by Baloch group BLA.

Deadly Tactics and a Lethal Strike in Balochistan

The attacks have varied in their methods, showcasing the adaptability and reach of the perpetrators. Among them, a suicide bombing in Balochistan stands out as the most lethal, claiming the highest number of casualties in a single incident. Whilst BLA claims 90 soldiers were killed, officially only 10 deaths have been accepted. This devastating strike underscores the growing intensity of the threat facing Pakistan.

The violence has not been confined to a single region. Instead, it has spread across 23 districts in three provinces, highlighting the extensive footprint of these militant groups. From urban centers to remote areas, the coordinated nature of these attacks reveals a troubling escalation in security challenges for Pakistan.

Curfew imposed in three districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; troop movement expected

Curfew to remain in effect in South Waziristan from today. The curfew was imposed on Sunday in the three districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to details, the curfew will be imposed from March 17 (Monday) for an indefinite period from 06:00 am to 06:00 pm. The Tank deputy commissioner issued an official notification regarding the curfew in South Waziristan. During this time, there will be a complete ban on all types of movement on these routes. Passengers are advised to take alternative routes.

It had been reported that the decision to impose the curfew was made to ensure the mobilisation of the security forces and to overcome the potential threat in the area.

The sheer volume of attacks—57 in just 48 hours—combined with the resulting 16 deaths and 46 injuries, paints a stark picture of the crisis. This surge in violence marks a significant uptick in hostilities, raising concerns about stability and safety across the affected regions.
