The Afghan Taliban have admitted for the first time through their official account that the Taliban and Russian intelligence are cooperating against the Islamic State (IS) and that the Taliban has helped Russia against the Islamic State (IS).
According to the Taliban, in order to protect Russia from ISIS attacks, Taliban intelligence had informed Russia before the Moscow attack and, based on information received from captured ISIS members, told Russia that the Islamic State (IS) intended to target Moscow.
According to the Taliban, Russia considers ISIS a major threat and therefore attaches great importance to helping the Taliban fight it. The following statement was put out by Taliban on 29th March.

Excerpt from the poster:
Russian officials are seeing the Taliban as a potential partner in the fight against ISIS-K (IS-K). Especially after the incident, when ISIS claimed responsibility for the March 22, 2024, attack on Crocus City Hall on the outskirts of Moscow, Russia, in which 144 people were killed. According to reports, the Islamic Emirate’s intelligence agency also warned Russia, based on information obtained from captured ISIS terrorists, that ISIS was planning an attack in Russia. Thus, in October 2024, Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi welcomed Russia’s announcement to remove the Taliban from the terrorist list, saying that “countries in the region should cooperate with Afghanistan against ISIS, as the organization has established training centers outside of Afghanistan.”
Taliban for a very long time has been accusing Pakistan Army and Tajikistan of supporting anti-Taliban entities like NRF and ISKP. Ostensibly in 2024, there were only months when ISIS did not carry out attacks against Taliban. Read ISIS “Delegates” in Balochistan to Meet Pakistani Authorities– Pro-Taliban media
Taliban’s association with Russia will be a new chapter in Afghanistan’s history. In the late 1980’s Mujahids (who later became part of Taliban) fought against Soviets, for USA and Pakistan Army. ISIS attacks in Russia are also a lesson, that whilst the country faces external attacks, the internal INTEL agencies will also be overwhelmed by the terrorists.
