In a statement released by the terroist group Hizbul Mujahideen(HM):
An Islamabad anti-terrorism court sentenced Shahzaib alias Zebi to double death penalty for the 2023 assassination of top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Bashir Pir, also known as Imtiyaz Alam. Prosecutors provided evidence linking him Indian intelligence agency R&AW.
The claim by the terror group is yet to be verified.
HM statement further adds:
Five more accused received a total of 40 years and 9 months in prison for their involvement in Indian-backed activities. Pir, a close aide of Terrorist Syed Salahuddin (Chief of HM), was shot dead in Islamabad’s Burma Town by “unknown gunmen”.
Almost 2 years ago, on Feb 20, 2023, BAshir Pir was standing outside a shop in Islamabad’s Rawalpindi area when he was shot down.
Alam was known to have close ties with Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin. He served as the ‘commander’ responsible for identifying infiltration routes, facilitating the entry of new recruits into Kashmir, and managing logistics.
Alam was a native of the Babarpora area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Active since 2000, he operated from Pakistan. In October 2022, the Indian Govt officially designated him as a terrorist, identifying him as the “launching commander” of Hizbul Mujahideen, particularly for orchestrating infiltrations into Kupwara and coordinating with other terrorist groups for operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
