On March 1st BLA, Baloch Liberation Army claimed they carried out 21 attacks against Pakistani Forces in February. A day later, the feared Tehreek E Taliban also called Pakistan Taliban claimed that it carried out 147 attacks against Pakistan Forces.
TTP’s attack to kill ratio is poorer than Balochi groups, TTP also relies on strategies which are more crude when compared to Baloch groups. Interestingly, TTP in many of their videos and posts use a map of Pakistan which shows Kashmir as a part of Pakistan, irking the Indian audience.
The following are the most recent claims by TTP:
Total attacks : 147
Pak Defence Forces casualties: 180 (95 wounded)
Guerilla attacks: 53
Sniper attacks: 50
Ambushes: 11
TTP clearly seems to avoid direct confrontation with Pakistani forces. Till very recently highest number of attacks were carried out using snipers.Usually sniper attacks are considered part of Guerilla attacks but in TTP’s case probably they mean direct confrontation with Pakistani Forces were higher last month.
North Waziristan faced the most number of attacks by TTP, last month. As per Pak Taliban’s claims there were atleast 27 attacks in North Waziristan alone. Marwat did not witness any attack in February. The militant group also damaged myriads of armoured vehicles and drones which were used against them by Pakistani forces.
Pakistan Army is on tenterhooks, the reason is not TTP alone. Baloch groups along with a Sindhi group have now formed a “National Army of Balochistan”.
The numbers that militant groups like TTP claim could be exaggerated but then there’s no smoke without fire. Pakistani Army have been regularly carrying out operations against these groups, losses are but natural under such circumstances. Albeit, many times Pakistan Army delays or refuses to claim the losses.
