Parag Jain, a distinguished 1989-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Punjab cadre, has been named the new Chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), India’s external intelligence agency, for a two-year term starting July 1, 2025. Jain succeeds Ravi Sinha, who is set to retire on June 30, 2025.
Jain, widely recognized for his pivotal role in ‘Operation Sindoor,’ a high-stakes intelligence operation, brings a wealth of experience in counter-terrorism and intelligence integration to his new role. Operation Sindoor facilitated precise strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, showcasing Jain’s expertise in blending human and technical intelligence. As the head of the Aviation Research Centre, Jain has been instrumental in overseeing aerial surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations, further solidifying his reputation as a strategic mastermind.
With a career marked by significant contributions to national security, Jain has tackled critical challenges in India’s neighborhood, particularly those involving Khalistan terror groups and issues in Kashmir. His deep understanding of counter-terrorism dynamics is expected to play a vital role in thwarting Pakistan’s efforts to rebuild its terror networks.
Jain’s appointment underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its intelligence capabilities amid evolving regional security threats. His leadership is anticipated to enhance R&AW’s effectiveness in safeguarding national interests through proactive and precise intelligence operations.
